A full white plaster resurfacing on a typical Bay Area residential pool runs about $14,500, which covers the plaster application itself. Draining, chipping out the old plaster and hauling the debris away while saving your existing tile adds roughly $2,500. Pebble and glass bead finishes cost more than white plaster because the material costs more. We quote every pool after seeing it, because shell condition is the variable that moves the number most.
New plaster needs a supervised seven-day start-up: daily brushing and careful water chemistry while the surface cures. It typically runs about $2,800 and is handled by an independent start-up specialist you contract and pay directly, not by us. We tell you this up front because a botched start-up permanently stains a brand new finish, and it is the single most common way a good resurfacing job goes wrong.
Plaster finishes generally last 7 to 12 years, pebble finishes 15 to 20. The honest signals that it is time are a surface that feels rough underfoot, staining that will not brush out, and plaster that has worn through to the gray gunite beneath. If you are seeing only minor discoloration, you may not need a resurfacing yet, and we will tell you that.
It leaves a permanent ring at the waterline that cannot be removed without redoing the finish. Once we start the fill after plastering, the water must run continuously until it reaches the midpoint of the waterline tile. If it is filling too fast, turn the flow down. Never shut it off. This is the most expensive avoidable mistake a homeowner can make on a remodel.
Yes. We run weekly service only, not bi-weekly, because Bay Area pools do not hold chemistry reliably on a two-week cycle. Weekly service starts at $120 per month and covers cleaning, chemical balancing and an equipment check on every visit.
We diagnose before we quote. Most equipment calls trace back to a chain rather than one dead part. A clogged filter starves the system of flow, the heater trips its high limit, and the thermal fuse blows. Replace only the fuse and it blows again. We find the actual cause first, then tell you honestly whether a repair or a replacement is the better spend.

The owner. Stellar Pool Service is owner-operated, so the person who walks your yard and quotes the job is the person doing the plumbing, concrete, paver and equipment work. Plastering is the one trade we subcontract, to crews we have used for years.
We aim to call or text back within 15 to 30 minutes during business hours, not days later. If you submit the evaluation form you will hear from a person, not an autoresponder.
No. On-site evaluations are free and there is no obligation. We will walk the pool, tell you what actually needs doing, and tell you plainly which upgrades are worth the money and which are not.
Cash, check and credit card. Card payments carry a 4.5% surcharge, which we disclose up front rather than folding into the price.
Yes. Workmanship carries a five-year warranty. Manufacturer warranties on equipment and finish materials are separate and pass through to you.
